Parent Handbook - Fall 2011

Child Care

Child care with a paid provider is available throughout Sunday mornings, during the worship service and Sunday School. Also, a quiet room is available at the back of the Sanctuary for infants and parents during worship.

Time with Young WorshippersYoungworshippers

Children are invited to join pastors Rick or Luke for a special children's message during worship service on Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary.

Children and Youth Worship

During the worship service every Sunday children (4 years olds-K and 1-3 graders) gather for age appropriate worship experiences including singing and extended Bible learning. We use Seasons of the Spirit resources so that the children are working with the same biblical passage as is being used in worship.

On the last Sunday of the month children in 4th grade and older participate in communion bread baking in the Fellowship Hall kitchen during the worship service time.

Our Whole Lives (OWL) Sexuality Education - Fall 2011

"To offer sexuality education in a congregation is to acknowledge that human sexuality is simply too important, too beautiful, and too potentially dangerous to be ignored in a religious community." - Rev. Lena Breen

OWL classes offered this fall for Kindergartners-1st graders are on Sundays at 9 am. The classes taught by Dr. Haven Howell and Dr. Louis Krupnick included a required parent meeting and a parent and child orientation. Parents also attend the first class on anatomy and the final class on Sunday, November 20.

Two OWL classes were offered in the fall of 2010 for Grades 4-5 and 6-8 with leaders Louis Krupnick, Haven Howell, Tony Porter, and Lysa Burianek. Parents and youth attended a mandatory meeting that provides an overview of the course, including material covered in both age groups, expectations for participation, and parent decisions about some content pieces.

For information on the OWL program values and assumptions see: http://www.ucclongmont.org/content/documents/OurWholeLivesSexualityEducation2010.pdf.

VBS 2011 - "Shake it Up Café"
In this café full of chef’s hats and aprons, pots and pans, checkered tablecloths, and chalkboard menus, kids explored the Bible as a cookbook filled with recipes for living in God’s way. Throughout the week we celebrated biblical festivals, including Passover, Feast of Booths, Feast of Weeks, and Pentecost.

See the Summer Courier.

All adults working with the children will be screened according to our “Policy to Prevent Sexual Abuse and Harassment,” and are required to attend a boundaries training if one has not been attended since August, 2009.

To volunteer, call Teddy Hampton (303-854-7548), Marcia Silkensen (303-776-4870), or Linda Petitt (970-532-2238).
